Mountmellick Embroidery - books, kits, threads, fabrics, needles & ideas |
Mountmellick embroidery originated in the village of Mountmellick in Ireland, is part of the family of whitework embroidery. It is done with matt white cotton threads (Mountmellick threads) on a thick white cotton sateen. The embroidered works are then edged with knitted fringes. The motifs are big and represent wild flowers. The beauty of the embroidery is in the large variety of stitches used, and the choice of stitches which give the embroidery its relief. It can be used for table-cloths, table-runners, bags, clothing, bedspreads, cushions, curtains, etc... |
